seeing the sender i wonder about the condition of the tank...
where is the "real" problem with removing the tank...you want to empty it before removing?
why dont you remove one of the two strainer instead of the plug you can`t access.
why not try it with a vice-grip when you can`t access it with the allen?
why not slide the tank a bit forward in order to get more space for the allen?
    wuerth sells an excellent product

As Franz mentioned, no reason to remove the plug; leave it in. You're majoring in minors worrying about that plug. Based on the looks of that sender the inside of this tank is junk... worst evidence of corrosion I've ever seen.

Drain tank as much as possible from the hoses, remove it, strip, and evaluate. But be prepared to buy a used tank.

i`m useing this also to clean aluminum and steel parts from overspray and bitumen...a bit richie rich style since its not too cheap but sometimes i simply have to .

don`t use it for plastic unless you`v tested it on a junk part.

    It's not supposed to.

Not sure that's a "lining"; doesn't seem to be in the bottom of the tank.
Looks like someone's kid didn't like the holiday cranberry sauce and poured it down the fuel neck.

Well, that explains the smell of Thanksgiving...

    "You gonna eat that?"

BTW: That has to be the most awesome potato chip I've ever seen in a fuel system. A beer and some patience and I could entertain myself for a while trying to remove that in one piece.

Brings back memories of my scab-picking days as a kid.

That has to be Red-kote fuel tank sealer. Perhaps that's what it looks like after 30 years.
