    Looking for original engine number

    Dear forum.
I own a 73T targa with a non matching engine.
I would love to find out what the original engine number was but, as you all know, Porsche won't give me this information any more.
Does anyone eventually know a different way to obtain this number?

    Any help is appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Greetings from rainy Hamburg.

Start with posting the VIN, color, and known history.

Good old-fashioned sleuthing is a great place to start.

+1 on what Frank says Also what market was it delivered into - are there likely to be any historical records that can be found anywhere including on line for registration, servicing. etc that may note an engine number Do you have the name of any previous owner that you can work backwards from (or even find that document that they forgot to pass on)

    Okay, let's start this over!

This is what I know so far

The car was originally delivered at a dealership in Fellbach near Stuttgart.
I already tried to get some info from them but they donīt have any paperwork from that time.

The next thing I know is that it went from Germany to Switzerland where the last owner bought it still with the original engine.
He was a guy from the US where he returned after some years.
Back in California he swapped the 2.4l engine for the 2.2l now with the car. It was in a small shop he doesn't remember the name of.
He moved to Colorado with the car and that's where I bought it some months ago.
The history I got with the car is from a time when the engine was already swapped - so no luck there.

The technical details are as follows:
    1973 911 Targa
    VIN 9113510120
    Signal Orange

Thank you very much for your help!

    Best.

I just wrote to the former owner in the hope that he can give me some more information about that shop.
In a previous email he just stated, that it was a small independent garage and that the engine was swapped in the late 80ies.
I will let you know when I know more.
    Thanks again.

I imagine that the Porsche dealership in Fellbach was Hahn Sportwagen, wasn't it?

    Your absolutely right!
Sadly they don't keep records older that 10 years.

My 928 CS was delivered there and I would love to find information of its early life. Too bad.
