It really is everything a Porsche should be, fast, tight, and looks good doing it. The other advantages, real heat and AC. My brother has an 87 Carrera, it looks great, drives great, but the heat is a little weird, and the AC is a joke. I'm not usually big on frills, my 356 doesn't even have a radio, but it is nice to get into a Porsche sometimes have some creature comforts.
The collections I don't understand are the people who have multiples of cars, like 2 356 C's, or 3 early 911's. I walk out to the garage and want something different from every car, depending on my mood. Like when I want to scare myself silly, I put my foot in the C43 Benz, that car is terrifying! But then sometimes I just want to throw the kids in and get ice cream, so we take the mustang. I drive the 993 to work a lot, the 356 not as much as I should, mainly because it has no back seat so if I have to pick up the kids on the way home I don't have to switch cars.
But the main thing, is if you own it, drive it.

I agree the 993 is a great car, for a more modern car, and much better than the following 996. My 993 twin turbo was my daily car for years, and yes it is tight etc. But it is certainly not a vintage feel, nor provide the joy of an early 911 or a 356, so I didn't miss it when i sold it.

I am in on this but currently looking from the outside on my first Porsche love, a 58 A coupe. Mid - late 70's I restored one, loved it, was sadly hit by a woman that ran a stop sign, just prior to moving to CA in 80. Car went away in all but my mind. I love the sound of the 71 Targa with a strong motor on Weber's & M&K, the power & sound is addicting. I have a light nimble, well sorted late 65 build 912 coupe I have had for almost 20 years, great car some sentimental value in it from my wife pushing me to the car prior to her passing. What I am hoping to be my ticket back into an A coupe is a 67 ROW 912 SWT I have had for 14 - 15 yrs, and I would do a sports purpose version, solid handling, trans, and a 912 motor, two good seats, minimal interior.
The sound smell and look of the early car is special, very special to me.

    Best Regards
