Yeah, we will work on this. But in the end, if unpainted bolt heads is the biggest issue I end up with on a driver-quality car, I can live with it.

If you go that way just paint the bolts separately. Screw them into a cardboard box and paint them washers and all. Then install them with a plastic bag over the bit to help not chip paint when torqueing them down.

Actually the bolts are the least problem, it's not chipping paint on door and fender edges, really best to do aligning before paint. Your call.

Yes, I also agree, do the aligning before paint, trust you'll be glad you did, even if it's only going to be a driver

Oh yes, the plan has always been to have the doors re-hung and aligned before paint, as the painter wants the parts painted together in their normal positions so that the metallic grain is consistent over the whole car. I've seen too many cars where the doors look ever so slightly different because they were not painted in place.

Of course, the drivers' door will have to come back off briefly after paint so that the antenna can be installed...

you probably know.... but just in case..... once doors aligned, remove only the hinge pin to remove the door. this way you don't have to fiddle with resetting the hinges

That was my recommendation to the painter, but since I'm not doing the work, how he does it is up to him. He guarantees that it will have correct door fit and be beautiful when he is finished.

Apparently the painter knows what he is doing. The doors are back on, and the gaps and fit are great. Getting ever closer...

Progress is slow on the car itself over the holidays, but I've continued to work on cleaning and prepping parts for reassembly. I've got stuff scattered all through the house...
