    1969 vinyl question

The panel with feature in it is off a 52,000 69 912. The other is from a well known European interior kit supplier. We are restoring a 69 911E targa. Is that featureless vinyl correct? The dash and door tops are very much like the 912 with some feature in the kit. Is the 911 and 912 vinyl the same or do the differ?

911 and 912 interiors in 69 were the same with the exception of the carpets. 912s had Perlon, 911Ts could as well though most US 911Ts probably had the Harrgarn. The top piece in your pic doesn’t appear correct to me though, the picture lacks some detail. No one that I know of is producing the exact, deep black vinyl though there are some very close approximates concerning the grain.

    Chris,

Scrounging through the basement looking for black vinyl (most of which I tossed) taken off my USA '69 911T, the vinyl from the seat sides, headrests, and sunvisors all have subtle imitation-leather grain, as in your original photo. Nothing like your European kit. When Autoweave redid the interior from scratch 2 years ago, they found material virtually identical to original. It's out there somewhere.

    Best wishes,

    Rich

ALL '69 model year US 911Ts had perlon.....even the "appearance group" optioned cars with "S" trim and gold lettering.

Call Carolina at Autos International and have her send you a sample of their "new" black vinyl material. I find it to be very close to the original pattern.
