    Fahrzeugbrief

Does anyone know whether it is possible to recover a copy of the Fahrzeugbrief for a German delivered car? Failing that will the German authorities retain any information on the first owner of a car originally registered in Germany? The car in question was first registered in the Munich area in 1971. This is a long shot I know but thought I'd ask!

hi, no it is not possible for the German registration office to receive a copy of a previously collected old vehicle fahrzeugbrief. on the contrary: these documents were destroyed there. I unfortunately went in the late 80s with my original 914-6 fahrzeugbrief as well. data (for exampel name and address of the owner or the first owner) were neither stored let alone published.

maybe you are lucky and the delivering car dealership still has an old archive with data. would be at least an idea.

Uwe is 100% correct. I gave the registration office a number plate from the 80's and wanted them to tell me the chassis number of the Porsche it came from and they said they have no records of old cars.
Fortunately, I have the original brief from my 73 RS.
