    Actually, I was referring to me. There is no decernable noise difference between SSIs and original
    Heater boxes.

    Ah, thank you -- appreciate it, just what I was looking for. At this point I may stick a probe into my muffler to make sure the internals still look good.

    I have the same with my 72 targa, also using SSI heat exchangers. Replaced the stainless Dansk muffler with a steel factory muffler and it was a bit better. I do think that the majority of the sound comes from the engine itself, the MFI system and the intake, so most likely there’s not much that can be done.

    Some time ago I went for a short drive in a 2.0T with carbs and that seemed a lot quieter than my 2.4T/E. I know many people like having more noise but I find it to be quite hectic...
