Thread: Glass Out Paint Job Cost

  1. #11
Id strip it to metal before painting it.

The metallic Glasurit paint for my recent project was $900 per gallon, it took just over two. That was just the color..

The guys restoring cars for resale must be using Sherwin Williams truck paint.

If the car has "no stories" under the existing paint, I typically can have the car repainted/buffed in 4 weeks. $10k
Materials are about $3500.00 when not using glasruit.

I am in florida if you are interested in having your car painted. I did three long hood 911s last year.

The term "absolutely no rust", is most likely not possible, unless the car was fairly recently taken to bare metal and repaired. You will find body issues that need to be addressed most likely. I just finished a glasurit job on my 69E and it was north of $20k and I stripped the car to bare metal. I would budget in the $25k range.

I don't see how you can do a proper quality job without taking the car apart. And believe me there is a lot of prep involved. Hundreds of hours if you want a quality job. Single stage glasurit or base coat plus clear for a metallic car is expensive. There is always metal work to do also. Quality job $30K and up in my opinion. Few shops will do this level and you will have to wait for sure for a good shop as most likely there is a waiting list. Trust me Ive looked at many shops here in SoCal.

I'm gonna throw a wrench in this one, I had mine done a few years by a local guy who did it using single stage Urethane for a whopping $2000.

I paid for the paint of course.

So many variables. Not the least of which being what part of the country you live in.

The blue targa here belongs to a friend. It was painted a little over a year ago. Glass and interior out, bare metal, every panel needed some work, although rust was very minimal. Repairs and straightening was hammer & dolly work, no filler. The job (exclusive of the replacement rubber, dash pad, etc.) was $10k here in Oregon.

A bare metal respray is extensive work and I would call that a very fair price Arne.

I just completed a paint job on an average tub. Replaced any questionable metal. 6 months. (40 hour weeks). Single stage glasruit.
Dis-assemble, Strip, media blast, chop, cut repair, fit, align, block, fill, prep, paint etc..... Everything perfect.

Now im currently doing reassembly with all new and restored parts. That will eat more hours...

I’ve had 3 cars (all Targa’s) go glass out bare metal re-paint within the last 3 years. All were north of 25k. That’s here in Kansas City. I have a coupe in final prep stages to paint in Denver. I’m betting it’ll come in at 25-30 just for paint, no body work as its been done. All these jobs have been, and are being, done by award winning shops (Monterey and Amelia) All took way longer than anticipated. Be willing to wait for the ‘right’ job.
