    Protecting Magnesium

What is the best way to clean and protect Magnesium cases from the ravages of corrosion?, my 2.2 was parked for many years over grass (P,O,) and some effect of moisture has caused corrosion in areas of dissimilar metals, case bolts and suchlike, just noticeable pitting. What products can be used to clean and prevent further corrosion?. Thanks,

+2 for Gibbs. My Widebody project engine came with a Magnesium fan painted yellow. First I bead blasted it. Then I washed it in a parts washer. Then I coated it with Gibbs. Still looks good several years later.

For your engine and gearbox this is quite close to the original finish... Cortec Corshield VpCl - 368

I think it's a US product so you should be able to source it easily.

Here's the photo from a DDK thread on the subject. Tectyl (Valvoline) is good as well.
