Thread: Varieties of 1968 Rear View Mirrors - Thoughts?

  1. #11
Ok so if they did make a chrome version (pretty cool) I think Rick could be right as they are for Euro cars. Taking this one step further early 67 build 68 911S cars had some detail differences such as 67S side decos and elephant hide panels, Could this have been a 67 built 68S thing as it does look like an updated version of the 67S mirror?

The Mercedes mirrors are near identical. I’ve had several. The stalk has an ever so slightly different shape from the matte finish 68 Porsche stalks and is a bit thicker. From five feet away, pretty much undetectable. The shape of the snap base is the same IIRC. US vs ROW makes sense. The chrome look is nice.

I bought a MB version and saved on the one year only Porsche premium. It popped right in and looked the part.

Row 68 cars appear to have come with 67 mirrors early in the production and then got the breakaway
Mirror (non chrome stalk). Chrome breakaway stalks remain a mystery. I still believe they only came
    In MBs.

Any chance someone could post a '67 mirror? Wondering if mine is correct / original. Early 68S Euro, and I have a chrome stalk with a black pebble back mirror.

    Thanks,

I don't want to derail this thread; however, it appears the very early 68 Euro cars (7/67) perhaps got 67S mirrors? Here is what I have. And yes, I will clean it up after seeing it here (although it looks much worse in this picture)

    Thoughts?

Scott, is your night switch the flat 67 type.? Hard to see clearly.

My contribution.... I purchased a NOS 67S chrome stem version which had the 68 mirror with the bump on the night switch. Unopened bag, i sold the stem on this board but kept the mirror for my 68.
