    I had to get the dig in there against insurance companies. Most laypeople have no idea that they dictate our parts margins.

    Why don't we all make a list of what we see that is wrong.
    I guess most of the things are 'hard to find' but some of things are 'easy to do better'? Or not?

    I will make a list of what you guys said earlier and will post it here.

    Yes, the window frame was very difficult. 2 screws wider away from each other, I know

    One chance: I don't think so.
    I tried to sell the car. It didn't work… No worries.

    I am going to try to make it better.
    At least this car will be pretty famous!

    - I would paint the engine bay, hinges, and the inside trunk black instead of body colour.
    - Raise the engine grill as per early models.
    - Change the seats to 6 pleats one.
    - Chassis number inside the trunk: shouldn't it have a plaque above the number?
    - Change the ignition key hole to a correct early one (I imagine super hard to find)
    - Change the turn signals to original Bosch ones
    - Change the Porsche crest logo to an old patinated one with orange bars.
    - Find the screw caps for the top of the dash.
    - I believe the door pockets should be straight and not have a deeper side (came later on the S models)
    - Are you sure it had front over bumperettes?

    dec lid script
    heart exchangers

    seat hinge mechanism is missing some bits
    dec lid should have the seal not the center panel of the bumper
    lots of incorrect bolts
    torsion bar cover seal is wrong
    incorrect number of latches( 3 not 5)that hold the engine bay sound deadening mat
    transition q-panel to rear latch panel (lead job)
    trunk seal
    drains on the front latch panel
    reinforcement bar on the cowl
    did you shorten the drain tube that goes through the smugglers box to the correct lenght?
    schutz and colour sceme
    indicator bucket on front fenders
    am i seeing a rubber grommet on the dome light switch?
    no fogs? no webasto?
    etc.

    This is a fascinating case study. It actually pinpoints one of the most critical factors in regard to authenticity and faithfulness of a restoration.

    Michael,
    More importantly than getting the details right at this juncture is WHY you didn’t seek expert consulting beforehand on such a valuable car. Conceivably you left well over $300k on the table. I believe there IS a market for ‘64’s but cars have to be world-class examples.

    We’ve assisted greatly with a punch list to rehabilitate this poor car. It would be most helpful to hear your real reason as to why you didn’t consult a ‘64 expert in this endeavor.
