    Blaupunkt Frankfurt 1972 question

I am in the middle of purchasing a Blaupunkt Frankfurt for my MY1973 (end of 1972 build year) 911.
Since I would like to have the correct radio for my car I am looking for a 1972 Frankfurt.
Strangely enough I stumbled across two different fonts on 1972 radio displays.
Are both correct for the time or is one of those (I suppose the one with the larger font) non original?

    Thanks for helping out.
    Christian

I’d pm Mike Fitton (mfitton) on here. He is one of the radio experts here. I’m sure he’ll chime in if he sees your post.

I am going to say the top dial face “larger font” is a later radio like ‘75-‘76 model. Lower one is correct through ‘73 also has correct recessed chrome faceplate. 4th digit on the model number will help you if the side sticker is still there.

Thank you very much for the info Mike.
The interesting thing is that the side sticker on the upper radio also has a 2 at the 4th digit (see attached photo).
That's what made me start thinking...

I'll take a look through my stash today and see what I have. I suspect I may have 72 models with both faces as well. Could they have come both ways from Blaupunkt? I suppose it's possible. Perhaps also possible that they've been repaired with newer parts over time?

I am no expert, but I believe both of these radios are for European delivery cars. North American versions of these radios did not have the L M K U U on the channel pre-selection buttons.

Yes, Brent. That's not in dispute. What we're discussing is the difference in the the dials.

I thought the 'G' serial number prefix was the year indicator for Frankfurts. My car is an early '72 (8/71) and I've been assuming I will want a 'C' radio for it. I thought the 'G' radios were 75-76 as Mike noted above.

Yes "G" prefix serial number is '75-'76 so your '72 model was put into use is '76 for warranty start. '72 (model 7.632) was the last year of the standard blue dot like the bottom radio and there was not a new version of the Blaupunkt Frankfurt until '75 (7.635).
