Need help from the ANTENNA POLICE

I’m looking to replace the Pep Boys generic antenna on my 1969 911S with a proper Hirschmann antenna.

A search for an original piece at a realistic price has been fruitless so I’m willing to buy a new reproduction.

I have two choices...Sierra Madre or Stoddard (photos below). Which one is more “correct”?

    Many thanks, as always

Stoddard looks more correct in the picture. That said, they almost look like the same antenna with the exception that the chrome nut on the Sierra Madre piece has not been tightened.

IMHO opinion, unless your car is a very late build 1969 car, neither of those are correct. I have three highly original 1969 cars and all of them have the Bosch blue tip antenna.

The style of antenna you're reference is commonly found on 70-73 cars (the dealer-installed version of that antenna is the Hirschmann AUTA 4900 LS 18 and is identical to the factory antenna above the fender where it can be seen). I have seen a one '69 car in person that may have come with the 70-73 style antenna. It was a late build car but the owner didn't have an opinion as to whether the antenna was original and the car had been restored more than once.

All of that said, if I had to choose from the two antennas you posted, I agree that the Stoddard looks "more correct".

    Thanks, guys!

The only reason I specified a Hirschmann antenna is because I found Hirschmann keys and a hang-tag in a package of original papers that came with my mostly-original car...not air-tight, I'll admit, but the best evidence I have that the car originally came with a Hirschmann.

    Much appreciated!
