It’s definitely hinky. Pics of all the A/C components would be helpful. Including fasteners and clamps.

At least you have a front trombone. How about pics of the thermostat on the tank?

Simple to replace the trombone with a proper cooler, make sure and keep it.

Going to send some more pics. Frank, can you tell me where the thermostat on the tank is and I’ll get that one too!

Thermostat attaches to the front of the oil tank. There are 3 large oil lines coming off of it.

Here's a great pic showing the front condenser boxed shroud with fan in the front trunk. If your car came with Behr A/C it would have one of these.

Here's a pic of my '72 during pan replacement, showing the condenser box. Going to use the picture Frank posted as a guide to clean up and sort my front trunk.

I've seen pics of that box before but didn't know if that was the exception or the rule.
Can you tell if my front pan has been replaced?

    Looks original.

Without forensic inspection the simplest explanation is that your car didn’t come with fac A/C.

And if you’re hoping your car is some special one-off ordered by the King of Prussia or Elvis don’t hold your breath.

    Oh, mannn!
    Not Elvis’s car... that hurt!
But, I’m sure there’s a connection to McQueen some how!
    More pic for you then
