    Cam chain rail question

    I have an oil leak at one of the bolts holding the left lower chain guide rail in place, need to replace the sealing washer.

    Can this bolt be removed and replaced while everything is assembled, or will the chain guide drop/pop out of place? Do I need to pull the timing cover off and hold things in place to pull and replace this bolt?

    In theory a properly tensioned chain should keep the guide from dropping. (Easy to tell if it moved, once the bolt is out.) Since that’s the locking pin and not the floating pin I’d be more concerned with the alignment changing slightly but you’ll probably be ok.

    Personally I would pull both covers and have a peak inside the housings since you’re this far into it. Super simple.
