    1966 911 Prototype?

Hi guys, I lately acquired the engine lid with double grille below. Interesting is that the second stamp hole must have had a different mould and grille and was precisely worked out. So I assume it is factory original. A picture posted in a Fbook group shows a car photographed in early 1966 with exactly this grille. It features:

    - the lid offering more air/cooling than the standard
    - a double exhaust
    - a rear spoiler lip
    - a 912 themed licence plate from Wiesbaden, Germany

and more interesting it seems to be heavy on the back what indicates a heavy (6 cyl?) engine. Maybe the 67 911S proto?

Anyone has thoughts or infos about this?

The rear spoiler makes absolutely no sense from an aerodynamic point of vue.
Im also pretty shure the lid is not factory but home made.

The pic actually comes from me, posted a long time ago, found in an old ams magazine.

    Rudimentary translation...just for fun...

In March, I made in front of the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden two shots of new porschewagen, wobel the WI-AS-912 shows a modified back. Is it a new concept or is the very clean processed car a homemade? The factory or the owner will surely explain soon.

No, that's not a factory Part.
In Auto Motor Sport one or two editions later there was a short column explaining who did it.
I posted a scan somewhere here on the board but wasn't able to find it. -> so good luck trying to find it.
I'd include louver in my search

Still, thats not makes its factory original or “prototype”.
If yes, what would be its option number ?

As the ams article in above link states, its a period dealer modification of a regular factory item (engine lid), made for a clients wish, similar to tuning/“mods”. The same goes for the rear spoiler or any of those exhaust blends, all stated as home made.

Someone once told me they had a blue 912 that had a rear spoiler as original equipment.

I have an identical dual grill rear lid so I do not think it is home made. It was definitely made by someone with a large factory type spot welder. The second grill is smaller for sure.
