Thread: 71S color change quandary

  1. #21
I remember a 68 sports purpose S that Don A had...original color was sand beige. He changed it to Crystal Blue and then sold it well if memory serves. http://www.porsport.com/1968_911_s_factory_rally_car

I'm beginning to develop the opinion that there are only original cars, correct cars, and everything else. I like "correct" but when it comes to "correct" I'm not sure I understand the value of a repaint in original color vs a repaint in a non-original but correct color...they're both non-factory paint jobs using modern materials. At best, they can just be a real close match to an original factory paint job.

It seems like the 356 crowd is much more accepting of "correct" color changes...maybe it is just another decade for the 911 crowd?

Jim, I would like to believe you’re right. I hope as much as anyone that our thinking would evolve.

As far as re-painting it a “popular” color; I owned a Pastel Blue ‘70S coupe and sold it 20 years ago. It’s the color of joy and puppies. Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face.

Go OUTRAGEOUS,, perhaps a multi layered metallic that changes in the sunlight ,, that way it does not matter how the "grey matter" stands up over the coming years and who knows,,, the odd 'stroke "or 2..

Since when did you become such a wimp and care what other people think.
The only thing you must wrestle with is your capitalistic tendencies vs. your narcissistic desires. Only you can answer that.

Btw my 67S is going to have a color change from boring light ivory to maybe lilac, signal orange, or viper green.
No trepidations, no hesitation. F'em, it's my party, I will do what I want to.

Comparing your abused basturd rescue mutt to a matching numbers/optioned out family heirloom is hardly worth a comparison Mitch. My angst comes from modifying a car too much from its original state.

Taking the community’s pulse on the color change debate is never bad. I changed it 20 years ago to a color I liked. As much as I still like silver I figure I might as well see it the color I really like for my golden years.

As enticing as a free paint job sounds I think Pastel Blue it is.

    Thanks for the input.

Why not paint it sepia and then wrap it in any color you want? You could change the color as often as you wanted to.

    Frank...

Take one for the team. Frank Beck owning a brown car is priceless - it will provide years of entertainment for us. Covert it to a Sportomatic and you will have to go on tour.

    Cheers,
