    Dashtop late 73

The original vinyl dash top on my late 73 big bumper car has got a split behind the radio speaker, I was advised by one Porsche guru that a learher covered dashtop was a period option (with a seam that runs behind the instrument binacle all the way along the dividing line of the dash) Clearly if that were the case I’d look to get my dashtop recovered in leather. Any advice gratefully received. Oh my car is RHD!
Incidentally I’ve seen a repro dashtops out of Germany and they just dont look right compated to an original and bloody expensive too.
    Thanks, Pete

my '73 has the leather cover you describe. as a Sacramento, Ca. car most of it's life, delivered with factory A/C, my guess is the dash didn't last long in those summers. I have to admit that I haven't warmed up to it, but it will have to do until I can find a nice original, which BTW may well cost more than the repros you've seen. YMMV.

Thanks for the response. Has anyone out tyere got a photo of a 73 period dash covered in optional leather from the factory. Very keen to see how the seam looks behind the instrument binnacle and around the speaker grill.

I would not recommend recovering your dash in leather. As the leather ages it shrinks and distorts the underlying dash. If you want longevity, vinyl is best for a recover.
