    If I remember correctly, back in the 1960s the exchange rate was about 7 DM to the U.S. dollar, so DM322 was only about $46. Enough for a tune-up, but not an engine.

    In the early '60's perhaps. Between '66-'69 approximately 4 DM = 1 U.S. dollar.

    Anyway, even ~80 U$ would most probably be insufficient funds to have an engine replaced, wouldn't they?

    Most definitely not an engine, then. I’m trying to figure out how I can get more US history in Washington State where Mr. Nelson lived. I need to fill out a public records request from them.

    As for 740524, no clue where it might be. We are also trying to figure out when 741695 was built and where it went to. Any Engine number gurus out there?
