67S Koni Steering Arm and Caliper Mount Color

    Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of restoring a pair of Koni front struts for a 67S. Are the steering arms and caliper mounts also painted red-orange?

    Thanks, Vic

Here is a good thread on the color:

Note that the color is not the current bright orange, but more of the red-brown color of the heater valves.
Similarly, the Boge struts were a similar red-brown:

Those pieces on my '67S were simply Parkerized raw steel....they were rusty. So I don't have photos.

Looks like phosphate coating (Parkerizing) is it. I disassembled some front struts from a 68 911 and the caliper mounts were definitely Parkerized but I could not tell what the steering arms were as they were quite rusty so I’m assuming the same for the Konis.

A little slow on my response, these “R” pieces were segregated out for paint. Still some original finish on the steering arms. G. + it’s a Koni car of coarse.

Interesting that although Rs were '67 MY homologation, correct me if I'm wrong, the front cross member had later welded struts, not the threaded tubular units seen on earlier cars.

Correct Mark, 68 was starting the move to LWB. Crossmember is LWB. Just like 73 was moving to G body stuff.

Thanks for the pictures. Except for the first 4 prototypes 911 Rs are model year 68 as the VIN starts with 118, the 8 being 68.
