Scheel 300 experts, information request regarding head rest option.

    Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Scheel 300 off the board from this post: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ap-belt-holes)

This seat looks like it either never had the head rest option or someone removed the inserts. The GRP is molded such that there are provisions for the seat to accept a headrest but the metal tubes that the headrest rides in are not there.

Anyone know if it is possible to either source the inserts from maybe one of the aftermarket seat companies or fabricate something? ...or should I simply just use it without a headrest?

Hi there, do you know if the tube completely cylindrical on the inside or is it notched or oddly shaped in anyway? If it is a simple pipe, that looks like it might be quite easy to fabricate.

    Thanks,
    Jay

I happen to have a project Scheel seat that is disassembled so I can help. The tube is completely cylindrical, I hope the attached photo shows this. There is no spring mechanism in the tube, it seems that the headrest posts are held in place by the friction provided by the plastic cap. Also, notice that the bar is welded in an offset position so that it can sit in the molded fiberglass.
If your seat had this part, the fiberglass should still have 4 screw holes for mounting.
Let me know if you need any more info or photos

Awesome. Sometimes I love the power of the internet!

Any chance you could put a micrometer on there with the inner and outer diameter in MM or inches? ...I'm guessing it is metric pipe.

    Thanks!

Here are the numbers I got measuring by several locations along the length
    OD 14.1-14.4mm
and by measuring different angles at the bottom opening
    ID 10.1-10.4mm
    BOth tubes gave identical ranges
