Need help, is that black or charcoal carpet?

    Hello everyone,

I want to change some of the carpet (the one on the side of the doors) on my 911T 73 1/2
The car has the appearance/comfort option group so it should come with 911S carpet. I believe Haargan velour

I think the carpet is charcoal but can it be black too?

Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures

It's black, but unless you find use original carpet it won't match and will stick out like an obvious replacement. At least for the SWB cars, the replacement black Haargan velour appears to be blacker than was supplied originally -- the original appears to be grayer in color with more white strands in it. I've gotten samples from all the usual suppliers (including one in Germany) and nothing matches what I've taken out of these cars.

Sure looks like charcoal to me, same as in my '71 Targa. Can anyone post a side by side picture of original black vs. charcoal. I got a nice original matching piece (same piece you are replacing) on here by posting in the WTB forum.

Sure looks like charcoal in color to me also, but my point is that today's replacements that I know of anyway do not replicate the original color -- it is more black in color. If anyone knows of a source that duplicates the original please let us know. Thanks

I don't recall Porsche ever using a true black carpet in air cooled cars.. They are all some shade of grey or charcoal. They did call one of their carpet choices in the mid 70s as "blue/black". It was actually dark blue.

I just sent a mail to lakewell with pictures of the interior of my car to have more info

If I order over there, I'll also take pictures so we can compare original/replica

That would be great William. Here's what I just received from Tony at Autobahn, which is similar to other samples received. The top photo shows original carpet that came in the 65 911 I'm restoring. I'd like to find something closer to the original, more charcoal than the black currently being offered.

    Hello

According to lakewell it's Peper & Salt:

"Thanks for the pictures. You have haargarn velour 'pepper & salt'. This is indeed original specification for the '73 911S (or appearance group). "

I'll take some pictures when the carpet arrive in the US

    Tx everyone for your help

    William
