    chain tensioners

Is there a way to verify a chain tensioner is bad before taking the cover off.

I have a weird noise coming from the engine from idle to 2500rpm, after that it goes away
It sounds more like a vibration than a metallic clang

when I had a defective tensioner years ago, it was very pronounced metallic clang & went away around 1500rpm

I used a stethoscope and the right side was noisier than the left

    TIA

    Tom
