tank located inside front fender of 1972T

I have a tank and bracket for an overflow tank of some sorts for a 1972T.
Looks to go inside front fender?

Anybody know how it mounts and what it does?

It's part of the evaporative emissions system. Important part of street car, it takes any overflow of gas when filling tank and returns it to tank by way of bottom hose, while controlling gas fumes by way of upper hose to charcoal cannister. As shown, #3 and 4, there is a strap in the right front fender to hold it in place.

The plastic tank tends to get brittle with age and crack. It can be hard to find a good one, and some have adapted later style ones to fit.

When restoring my '72 targa that plastic tank was cracked. I found a new one that fit perfectly- got it either from Stoddard or SMC, can't remember which.
