    Replacement Chain Cases

    Your car should have the Magnesium chain cases. The P/N you reference is for the later Aluminum chain cases that were used late ‘70’s cars. You could upgrade to the Al cases but the Mg cases are correct. I have both types available. Email me if you would some photos of what I have available.

    You should be able to find used Mag housings. New Porsche chain cases that you would purchase have sand cast on one side and die cast on the other.

    I found a set of date coded cases on The Samba for our 69 last year that were in great shape. This I paid around $200 or so with covers. If you search on there, there are/were a bunch for sale.

    I have buttloads of mag chain cases. Would gladly trade for alu cases.

    Is the comment a suggestion that I should use the Aluminum ones instead? I am restoring as close to stock as possible, but will make changes where it makes sense for maintenance reasons. Thanks

    Aluminum cases are absolutely more robust than mag. One reason they went that way is because the chain tensioner pins would come loose and back out.

    Blasting with course media can also mimic the look of mag if that’s your desire.
