Can I fix a "rod window"?

I have a 73e with a 3.2 in it. The car came with the original 2.4, and a hole in the case, in boxes. The motors were swapped in the 90s. The previous owner said he thinks they can fix stuff like this these days. Outside internet banter, where do I start as far as resource for a repair like this? I don't plan to swap the motor back, I just figured this might be a retirement rebuild project (with proper coaching/learning) along the way. Many thanks.

Ollies has done some amazing repairs. Send them detailed photo of the damage and ask for an assessment.

They may need to see the inside to provide an assessment.

Seems like they always break out the case half with the serial number, never the left side.

Ollies says no can do on this magnesium case. Hole is too large. Can't repair without distorting the case.
