More info on Prototype engine 7

    Hi all,

Was reading in a book of Tobias Aichele about Porsche engine development. I was intrigued by the design of the air filter housing.
Does anyone has seen one ? Or have more info about it? Why was it not taken in production?

Jesse, the last photo is of Don Meluzio's prototype #13327 showing double snouts.

When Dennis Frick was doing the restoration it was one of the more complicated pieces to get right.

Comparing Don's double snout air cleaner to the two Mann versions used on the other 1964 901 and 911 cars (80mm to 110mm plenum height) a single snout must have got the job done - while they still had two large pieces joined with the rubber sleeve.

The 901 with 110mm height is shown below.

It was revised again into a single housing and used well into the 1970's with material refinements of metal to plastic.

Thanks, found him on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=...&v=oAfhzNwZokY

Did Dennis restore or re-create the double snout air filter?
