I just picked up the Kardex on my early 911.
Delivery date is 18/07/1966
would this be a late 1966 or early 1967?

If the vin <= 305100 (normal), then late 1966.
If an S OR vin > 305100, then early 1967.
Exceptions might exist for specials/prototypes.

An early 1967 model year.

The 67 model year started earlier than usual and the 67 DeLuxe RS which started with VIN nrs. in the 304xxx area must be taken into account.
RS is short for Rundschreiben or translated as bulletin.
The 1967 Deluxe is really a 1966 model that was marketed as an upgraded 1967 model year. This was because the base 1967 911 was downgraded from the 1966 base. Thus the 1967 Deluxe fit between the base 911 and the 911S. The 1967 MY production began before the 1966 MY production was completed.

I know the 67 Deluxe is 99.9 percent 66 but is it a 67 or a 66? Id say 67 only because Porsche says it is.
There is no easy answer that I can provide.
This was a Marketing thing; similar to them saying everything from 1964 through 1996 and into 1966 were all to be known as 1966 models.
Porsche literature also states 1967 model year from 305101 and up. And there is a gap in VINs before the 1967 serial range.

Has engine lid with block letters, the glove box too. Standard decos. 356 B silver metallic. A much later 66 serial #.

”What would PORSCHE do”
67 911 de Luxe, 356 B silver metallic / brown interior, ( buck skin really ) 67 PORSCHE [ built ] 912, Crystal blue, black interior, 72 T, Silver metallic/black interior, appearance group,factory AC.
304389 has a 67 911L title also, not a 67 DeLuxe RS though. It did come to me with block script on the engine lid and S decos.
