15 x 4.5 steel wheels, tube and non-tube type tires questions

    Hello,

I have read the prior threads, but I have not seen a discussion of whether if you run 165 80 R15 tires on the 4.5in wide steel wheels you should use tubes. I will probably end up with one of the usual suspects below, but 165 80 r15 are available in tubeless type tires for not much money so that could be fine for a while. They also have the advantage of being all season and it does get cold around here and my indoor storage for performance tires is a bit limited plus the inconvenience of removing the wheels and tires before winter. Does anyone have experience with classic brand ($75) or federal brand ($50) 165 80 r15?

I assume for the vedrestien, Michelin or Pirelli you should use tubes, but that is not entirely clear either.

Your wheels were designed for tubes, and while you might get away with tubeless fitment under normal conditions, you should really fit tubes to any tire you use on them, regardless of brand.
