    Steering rack bearing question

This bearing seems to have a very light detent or ratcheting feeling.
Is this correct or should it be smooth. If smooth is there still a source.

There should be a brand and number etched on it.
I don't think any bearing should feel ratchety, doesn't look like it has much grease packed in.

    Germany FAG 6202.
Do I go to a bearing shop, Porsche or one of our vendors?
    It also has a T. Then something I can’t make out. A, R, 8?

Can this be sanded with fine wet and dry sandpaper on a honing surface?

You probably find the bearing in any machineshop supply or maintenance supply shop or a shop that rebuild electric motors, it's a very common size in europe. You can find them in almost every drillpress etc.

I just sent JimmyT a message to see if he'll make some pucks/pistons. Anyone else interested?

I think that you may need 901.347.929.00 Steering Rack Repair Puck, -'68, $5.99 from Stoddard.

Like many things, they changed the design in mid '68.

There are two sizes of 'puck' depending on the age of the rack and we have remanufactured both sizes.

The later rack also has a 'full complement' needle roller on the pinion and this bearing can also wear.

We have parts for all types of 911 rack - early, intermediate and late.

I think that if the bearing is marked 6202A this would just be a 'manufacturers' reference and not very relevant.

Clearance grades of C - Standard, C2 Reduced Clearance and C3 - increased clearance would be available.

The puck I have is 28.95 mm by 15.40 mm from a SC rack I think. You can see the part number in the top picture. I just bought the 6062 bearing. I don't know the measurements on the 65 to 68 pucks. The shaft on the needle bearing side shows ZERO wear. It's 14.99 to 15.00 and super clean. The end bearings and the bar that goes through them has no play that I can feel. Everything had grease, needle bearings, the bar rack teeth, other than the middle of the bar where the puck is and the 6202 bearing.
