    production numbers

    Hi,

    I have a 10-67, model 1968 911 S SWB.

I know learned that all 911 S where made in Stuttgart and not by Karmann and that Porsche only started with production nrs in 1969.

Its a G model race car conversion. It has been modified over the years. So before ripping the car apart does it make sense to look for a production nr under the Dashboard or under the doors or is it a copy of the chass nr? And are there any other nrs I can check? We have thye certificate from Porsche on the chass nr.

    Is the above correct?

    Thanks a million

Sandor, in 1968 the cars just have a VIN unless it has a Karmann body. So the number stamped into the front trunk, on the aluminum manufacturer tag on the front slam panel, the number stamped on to the lower dash frame (below radio), and the handwritten number on the left end of the cowl should all be the same. The last three digits of the VIN can be found on doors and other panels on the early cars, but may not be on the 1968 cars.
