I have been a member for about 10 years and the only contact I have related to the membership is the Esses magazine 4 times a year (hopefully) and the receipt of my membership card. I can quite honestly say that I have not been put on a list or contacted by anyone or anything extraneous to the Registry...
    Hope this helps

I would sign up for that.

Don’t confuse freeloaders or selfish bass turds with paying non-members.

So now that the "NOS door striker thread" has been deleted, inquiring minds want to know if there was resolution in that case?
Maybe I just couldn't find it, it's there now, and my answer is there as well.

    Stretch,

    To clarify,

That stat has to do with 89 registered message board members, and 360 browsers who are just looking in and have no posting privileges... It has nothing to do the paid membership in the club...

I am a member of another forum with a model for classifieds that works, although it requires active participation from the moderators; perhaps more active than we can expect here. First of all, as suggested above, no classifieds can be posted by a non-paying member, unless he or she has 25 or more posts. Secondly, there is an "active" reminder to make a donation after a successful sale. I am not sure how they keep this at the front, but through the use of "stickies" and a posting "template" that must be part of every classified ad, they remind the poster several times before he posts that a donation would be nice. Still optional, but a lot of posters will donate this way and some even build the donation into their pricing.

This model requires the active participation of the moderators who will "nuke" any post that doesn't meet the requirements. They need to be on the lookout for "post-whoring" as well which, as you may surmise, involves a registered (but not paying yet) member who posts on a lot of threads with comments that really add nothing to the thread. You know the type . . .

The forum I am referring to has about three or four moderators and I think they share these duties with each other, although I believe the classified section there has many more posts than we get here.

Ditto. The only other communication I get/got is Fred's membership list with some early car details once in a blue moon.

I’m very big on professionalism in business (don’t act surprised). Over the 16 years that I have been here I have never had the feeling that I have been exploited in any way. My experience has been that this forum observes high ethical standards and a high level of professionalism.

As I’ve mentioned before an inordinate percentage of folks here are Type A high achievers. It’s not unknown for that personality type to be a pain in the butt sometimes. But Chuck and the others do a great job of maintaining civility, often under direct fire. Very, very few forums have achieved this level of success for this long.

I know, I know - time to start singing Kumbaya.

    Cheers,
    John

So if I’m understanding correctly I could expect a card, 4 mag issues, and a list from a nice old man.

That’s too much paper for me.

I’d rather just donate and be a non-member.
