off-topic - but seen some of the earlier comments regarding a wish for more build projects - I just decided to start a topic on my Martini RSR build soon here.
I have raised the bar for that project so high for myself, that maybe it is good to get some feedback from folks here, good or bad.

regarding the classifieds; I am constantly on the lookout for parts for my project, and I start everyday by having a quick look here. If it weren't for the huge amount/differentiation, I would have missed out on quite a few special things.
(harness, shortened trailing arms, RS steering wheel, 914/6 GT rear-view mirror, sway bar kit, etc, etc), so I don't care if the advertisers are paid members or not, as long as the site financially survives obviously.

There would be very little activity on this site if it didn’t have classifieds. For example, the Technical Forum used to be busy. Now, not so much.

Similar argument going on over on the 356 Registry.

Just read the thread many good topics and share positive views posted. the orig topic yes many of the guidelines not being used (number of posts / page) lots of fast bumps to stay in the first couple pages hopefully some reading the thread will police themselves.
As for sub categories, I like it the way it is for sale & wanted, I do use the advanced search if looking for something specific. On buying parts 90% of the time if asked what I am looking for it would be I don't know but seeing it I know or remember uses. My normal trip to the board starts in general, then technical, parts wanted (not that I sell much of what I have stashed away) then for sale for the number of pages I still have time for.
You do see many postings that are from people with minimal Registry usage and have to assume came to sell parts, this may be good or bad.

All in all I think the Board is doing a great job of managing this difficult task.

    Regards

This site overall operates in a classic bulletin board format, with only 5 sections, very few subsections, and a search function that is global to the entire site. The For Sale section here has no subsections, and all threads are listed sequentially with no overarching organization. The Bird has better organization overall, with the For Sale section having 7 parts subsections and (most important) a search function that is specific to the subsection one is viewing. TheSamba is similar. The 356 Registry For Sale section has no subsections, but that site sees much less traffic and again, the Search function is specific to the For Sale section rather than global for the site. This is not a complaint, but given current organization the For Sale section here has become fairly useless given its high traffic.
This is my favorite post in this thread thus far. What would be some preferred sub-sections for pre-74 911 parts? I enjoy managing thread placement and want to stay as current as possible with what discussion board members are looking for in their search for parts. As a for instance, I've been thinking an eBay-only thread would be good.

Interesting. I buy fairly often on the 356registry and always check the classifieds and rarely do so on early911s. Maybe because I have more 356’s but it’s not proportional still. Basically 356’s are more homogeneous and there are fewer ads to go through, and the quality filter seems higher. Maybe if there were subsections on the 911s.

I rarely buy anything on the 356 Registry classifieds, but I always check, because some real gems come up sometimes, like this one I bought a few weeks ago. The hood off of 550A-0114, my guess is probably the last loose 550 hood on the planet.

Don’t confuse freeloaders or selfish bass turds with paying non-members.

I Am a paid member. And I missing something here? No one ever,to my knowledge, has put me on any list.
Or send me any invites to functions.
