I'm just finishing a long winded resto on my '66 911. Its nearly concours but will be street driven occasionally and even in a "spirited" manner. It will never be driven in rainy or wet conditions, only dry days. I'm using Fuchs, 5&1/2 by 14" . What good, sticky street tire do you recommend ?

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
Correct 14" size (185HR14) is not available in CN36 at this time. Some will use 185/70HR14, but that is considerably shorter than stock. You could also look at 195/70-14 in the CN36, which is wider (but still fits 5½" wheels) and closer to stock diameter (but still shorter than stock).
The only somewhat period-looking tire in the correct size I know of is the Vredstein. Michelin also has the MXV (offered through Coker), but it is a more modern looking tire than I'd prefer.

In 14" I would look for 175/14 tire. Nice classic dimention and not so "big" as 185/14Z Maybe not the most "sporty" choise but will look good on a early car.

That's a good size as well, I should have thought of that. In 175-14 both Vredstein and Michelin XAS are available. The XAS is a true, period correct tire.

Do they make Avons in 14”? I have them on my 15” deep sixes and they are beyond my expectations (except in the rain).

I cant find Avons in 14" at Longstone Tires but did not check all dimention in 14".
Avons are slippery in the wet? They must be the best looking classic tyre for the road, even if XAS also is nice. Have anyone tried the Dunlop Racing tyres on road?
