Can a faulty tach cause a misfire?

I think I may seen some reference to this before.

My tach was very twitchy between 2 and 3000 rpm. I always felt there was a misfire accompanying the tach bounce.

Eisnebud's in Denver took the tach to Deluxe Speedometer and Deluxe installed a "new, updated board'. Tach is fine now.

I think the car runs better, but it could be the placebo effect.

Anyone ever have a bad tach that caused a misfire?

I have worked on several 911 cars that had that problem. The 1973 to 75 RSR had an optional mechanical chronometric tack that was used on the factory cars. It also has a tell tail to see about overreving.
