Oil level for front mounted tank?

Id like some advice from people with front mounted oil tanks. How do I determine the proper level for filling the system? Also do I need a catch can for the tank vent?

    Rick,
Before we install the tank two 1/8” NPT female bungs are welded in; one toward the top and bottom so 90 deg hose barbs can be used for a sight tube. Depending on the size of your tank I’d recommend keeping the level at about 2/3.
A catch can is always a good idea as insurance.

My front tank 4 gallon I think runs a little above half way. I’ve never blown up an engine so I guess I’m close, but you just have to experiment. Over filling is more likely your problem. I run the crankcase breather forward thru the cabin, over the roll bar to custom fittings in the tank and then from the tank back thru the cabin, over the bar again to a catch tank in the engine compartment. For me it was a choice to avoid fumes venting into the cabin, and I’ve seen oil push over an 8 foot beam, on the dyno, thru the breather hose, which becomes an oil return from engine to tank.
