Thread: Help with 71t front strut replacement

  1. #1

Question Help with 71t front strut replacement

My 71t has mis-matches front struts, has a Hydro Pnuematic strut on the driver side and a Boge on 5he right side. Both have 3 1/2 spacing with S calipers.

I acquired a set of Boge Struts part# 911 341 043 02 and 911 341 044 02 that I planned on using. A forum member had a set of Bilsten inserts that came out of a set of Boge struts that I obtained, but they were to long to fit in my new struts?

Will my new struts work in my 71t? (I have the right ball joints and pins)

    What inserts can I use?

Thanks in advance for any help

It may be just me or the camera angle but those struts look mighty short to me. How bout providing a measurement of the strut tube from the weld at the base to the top?

    Regards

If the struts are threaded in the top, photo please, I suspect the inserts are for something else, like a BMW or a Merc.

It looks like someone has shortened these struts! The inside depth is 12 3/4?
WHY would someone do this? I’m guessing they’re not going to work on may car? Hope I’ll be able to return them, got them on eBay.

You’re right! Someone shorten them? They are now 12 3/4 deep? Got them on eBay, the seller said they were new and then powder coated. I guess they’re not going to work on my 71t, won’t they throw everything off being shorter?

Now I can see where they were cut and the threaded top section welded back on. Racers that want to slam their cars will do this.

Weird question is what did they put inside them? Insert?

The eBay seller says he had no idea they had been shortened and agree to take them back and give me a refund. So now I’m back to square one. I’ve been looking for either a left Boge strut or a set of Boge struts (with 3 1/2” caliper mount holes) for my 71t for a long time!

Any help in finding these would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Dan
