Experience with 915 Factory Short Shift ?

has anyone experience with the factory short-shift set for the 915? Have read about WEVO, Weltmeister, Rennshift, etc., but no comments on the factory type.

    Tom,

Not sure if this is answer you seek, but I have a factory short shift in '86 Carrera 915. The transmission was allegedly rebuilt, but I must say the non-short shift 915 I've driven was a bit smoother in my non mechanical mind.

My former '84 Carrera had the factory set installed in it when I bought it. The shift action was notchy and high effort. I also had great difficulty adjusting the coupler so that it would shift well into 3rd and 5th but also have the reverse lockout work correctly. The sweet spot for everything working correctly was very small.

After removing the kit and reverting to stock, shift effort and overall action was much better, and I really did not notice that the shifter travel was all that much longer. I was much happier with the stock shifter, and will not convert to short travel shifters in the future.

Great feedback. The shift from 2-3 is exceptionally particular.

I’ve always liked mine, the throw reduction is only 30% or so. Adjustment of the linkage May be the cause of some of the problems cited above.

I've got a factory short shifter that I removed from a 86 Carrera. Yup, it is bit ticklish to adjust but works great. Some of the aftermarket short shift kits, not so much.

    Regards
