observations when dismantling an engine. (Wear, fissures)

I am interested in knowing several things about the engine disassembly.
Starting from knowledge "0" it would be advisable to disassemble the engine by myself or is it better to leave the engine directly to a mechanic so that from the opening observe the wear zones etc? I can take pictures of the disassembly process if I do it but maybe something happens to my "inexperienced" eye and I miss an important clue of breakage. The question is, should I encourage you to disassemble the engine? Or disassemble the spider, injection and I take the block to the mechanic so that it finishes opening it and examining it?
Does anyone know the cost of repairs (general) if you take the engine to that point?
    regards

You can certainly take it apart. Could be a fun learning experience. You can clean as you go (noting the bulk of your primary restoration thread). You'll probably need some help with reassembly! Looking forward to your new thread...

Thank you! I'll see if I buy the book and I get to it! I have disassembled the injection but the block .... I have to think about it a bit!
