    tire recommendations for Fuchs 5&1/2 x 14

    I'm finishing a 1966 911 and have a set of 5&1/2 x 14 Fuchs restored and ready.

What sporty tires do ya'll recommend ?

Whats the widest tire that will fit the rim ? 195 ?

The original size for those rims was 185R14 — no /70 or /60, just 185R14. There are almost no 'sporty' tires left in that size. Mostly just 6 and 8 ply rated ires for VW Type 2. The exceptions are Vredstein Sprint Classic (which I don't really consider as 'sporty') and Michelin MXV from Coker (better than the Vreds, but a bit modern in looks).

You could probably squeeze a 205 on those wheels, but 195 would be better. Your best bet there would probably be 195/70-14 in either Avon or CN36. Those will be a touch shorter than stock, but a decent all around size.

Not cheap but highly regarded and available in 185/70R-14.

185/70-14 will be close to an inch shorter than stock, with significant changes to gearing and speedo accuracy.

    Tires for 14" fuchs

Chris -- I put 185 70R 14 Pirelli Cinturato CN 36 on my recently restored 69T coupe. Looked period correct and performed very well. Purchased from Longstone Tire in UK. They were not cheap, but nothing is these days.
