    Belly Pan Dimples

As is my want here is another arcane thread. Looking at a '69 912 on BAT, I noted several belly pan pictures. Pretty car in Ossi Blue that is supposed to be original. There appear to be no inner circular "dimples" in the pan. Thought the '68 and later 911s and 912s had inner and outer sets of dimples and that '67 was the last of the single row on each side. Most replacement pans have both sets and restorers often make the mistake on not deleting the inner set for authenticity when replacing pan. Wonder if this is a Karmen only phenom? A 912 only idiosyncrasy? Anybody care? Please educate me as an owner of two 912 as well as a 911 Name: 1969_porsche_912_1564008804968fdc1969-Porsche-912-Underside-A-GC.com-14.jpg

Sorry, i dont know the answer, but does anyoneknow the function of these ‘dimples’?
I’m removing the ‘schutz’ on a 1976 car (that had’m indeed on all 4 rows) and they’re open like an opened tin can.

Served as drains when they dipped chasis for rust proofing.

Did they dip the chassis for rust proofing on 67 - 69 cars? They also have these "half cut" dimples. Covered with a hard seam sealer.

I believe they did an undercoat/primer dip on all 911s but just a guess from what I read. Question is when did they dip for zinc chromate. After the dipping they sealed with what I thought was some type of wax and then coated pan underside with schutz (?) Also had drip holes all the way down center. See this thread for absolute restoration accuracy. My hats off to Doug. https://www.912bbs.org/forum/threads...10#post-331390

Did they dip the chassis in a bath ?

Of what I know, only the 2.2 1970/1971 received a zinc application, underbody only, maybe then a wax. And what I saw on period pics, they rolled it over and painted it, by hand. At least the final black coating.

But not a specialist on that.
Pic is from 1969 (1970 Broschure)
