Thread: Audette Collection Slowing Down

  1. #11
    John,

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you...age wise, and with a desire to slow down a bit. I hope you can keep providing the same quality of work you have always done for many more years. Just take your old sweet time doing it, and any wait will be worth it.

John, I’m hoping you are on the back side of that ‘event’. I truly enjoy your friendship and the fact we’ve had so many commonalities in our lives. I’m betting our paths crossed decades ago when I was a regular beach diver at; El Cap, Refugio or Gaviota. I’m glad you’re just slowing the pace down and not exiting out. You’ve made this a FAR better place by being involved not only with your ‘craft’ but by being who you are as a person. Truth be told I’ve bought far more light sets from you than I had cars for. They’re just SO dang cool! I’m still hoping that some day we will share a drink or meal together. Until that day, cheers my friend!

So, I go way back with John as his son and I were good friends that used to skate board a half pipe in his barn. For you old guys that don't know what a half pipe is you can google it. Adam and my 30 year high school reunion was this weekend. I'm already slowing things down at 48 years old so John for sure you need to. This Porsche world is small and the time fly's. It's a brotherhood and the good ones take care of each other regardless of the up and down market.

    Failure to retire

First of all, thanks very much for the kind words. I felt like I was present at my own funeral. Very humbling.

There’s one thing that I fail at every time - attempting to retire or at least slow down. I’ve been trying since I sold my first internet company in 2000. But I enjoy work more than recreation - and that way I don’t feel guilty for not helping my wife with the dishes.

The demand for Audette Collection services is higher than at any time in the past 2-3 years. And I find it very hard to turn down projects as I greatly enjoy the work (for example, the recent development of a configuration to use 190mm Cibiés in Hella buckets was great fun). Fortunately, my wife Vicki is starting to pitch in which helps *a lot*. She does all the receiving, shipping and recycling, which is a surprising amount of work.

To complicate things further I’ve been hired by RV Life to write a weekly column. I don’t see that as being a problem though because, as you know, I seem to always have something to say. Pity the RV fools!

Thanks again for your good wishes and support.

    Cheers,
    John
