    Seller's Description:

    - Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection
    - 190bhp at 6,800rpm
    - 5-Speed Manual Transmission
    - Front and Rear Independent Suspension
    - 4-Wheel Disc Brakes

THE MARATHON DE LA ROUTE, an 84-hour epic endurance race run between 1965 and 1971, was an event that pushed both car and driver to breaking point. Referred to by competitors as the ‘World's Longest Motor Race', a name which went some way towards describing this epic test of human and mechanical stamina and survival. Participating in the Marathon de la Route was like driving three and half Le Mans 24-Hours, back-to-back.

Porsche had a new weapon at its disposal for the 1968 event as its 911 now boasted the new 2268 mm long-wheelbase body as would found in its 1969 production cars. Although the lead car was entered as a 911 R, this car was not a full spec ‘R' as it was fitted with an uprated 911 S engine developing 190 bhp that featured Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Driven for 84 hours between August 20-24, 1968 to overall victory at the Nürburgring by factory drivers Herbert Linge, Dieter Glemser, and Willi Kauhsen ‘009' covered more than 6,275 miles. This fantastically original factory works car, in the same ownership since 1974, is recognized as having achieved the first international victory for a long-wheelbase Porsche 911. Of the four 911 GTS produced by the factory, this is the only example to have survived in its original specification.

    If only.

Caught a great pic of Willi Kauhsen trying on his old ride at the PRCC in 2011. You could just see the memories flooding back.

Should be worth more than almost any R. (Except Colliers probably)

-Rarer (only 4 produced; 3 raced by factory in Marathon and 1 used as factory rally recon car and later in private hands in rally’s ).

-Just as custom and trick and lightweight as an R (The R’s were weighed without liquids).

    - lightweight shell. Alloy bumpers, fenders/wings, hood and deck lid

    -Factory team car.

    -Important drivers

    - Not available for order by private owners, werks cars only

-Important race winner. (0009) and second place.

-Originality (at least 0009. Personally not sure about others)

    -Extensive documentation

    -First LWB race cars.

    -only 2 known survivors.

    - believed to be the only 911 road racing cars produced by werks in 1969

(Though the R’s have the twin plug motor.)

If you are referring to GTSs there were at least 4.
