    Sound deadening 1973

    What's the current thinking of sound deadening for the floor pans for 72-73? I have the original insulation in the rear tub/parcel shelf etc. and no rust under it whatsoever. SO that's all good. On the floors I also have no rust but we chipped away some of the tar stuff with the hexagonal imprint at places where it had cracked to check for rust. All looked good, but now I have a few sections of bare metal where we did scraping (including almost all of the driver's side pan) and the remainder with the original black material. I've used POR15 over the bare metal but am wondering what I should do on top of that? Just leave it? Use rubberized coatings like Wurth etc? Or use some kind of modern audio or vibration damping material? What to people think?

    These seem to be popular with full resto crowd. Was the way we are leaning with our 69 resto.

    That 3M pad is what I am using in my 73 restoration. I think it is important to help absorb road noise. It does lay down nicely, and fits the contours of the floor pan. It looks about as original as I have seen- unlike dynamat and other sound deadening. They also look very similar to the replacement pads from Porsche I was able to buy in the mid 80’s when I replaced the sound deadening on my 70 911.

    Thank you both. I hadn’t seen that product, but it turns out it is made in the 3M factory right here in town, so I can support a “local” business.
