    Fresh air box drain

I’m stumped by the drain on my fresh air box. I bough the short drain and clip (#18 and #19 in this diagram http://dcautocatalog.com/illustration/index/161298257).

But there is no hole or pipe for it to connect to. All it does is bend 90 degrees in the available space (see pic). I’ve also seen a flexible hose, like this one (https://www.aasesales.com/products/e1e-b52-33i-112902) in some posts, but don’t know know what the routing looks like. I have a small hole to the left of the drain in the pic and a much bigger hole to the right, but nothing directly underneath. This is on a 1973 S from Feb ‘73 if that makes any difference.

    Any help appreciated.

Both my '73 and my '70 have this large hole right below the plenum drain that the hose connects to.

Thanks for that detail Tom. That would make sense because I can't see how even an elbow would fit on the stub off the box. Maybe it got patched during repair and painting, but that seem odd. I'll have to explore a bit more. The panel is definitely original and the only molestation was three holes drilled into the smugglers box for some long ago removed AC.

That got all screwed up when the A/C was installed. They cut away the metal drain tube in the smugglers box. Looks like the hole got welded closed.

So does the metal tube extend above the deck of the panel and does the rubber boot on the air box drain go over or inside that metal tube? I'm going to have to fabricate something, so I want to get it right.

The tube is flush to the trunk floor. I've taken a picture of the drain tube. PM me your email and I'll try to send tonight.

i had exactly the same problem. My hole had been welded up when the shell was restored - the original hole had been hacked out for A/C. I had to have it reinstated. I still had the flexi pipe from the A/C that was used to replace the original fixed metal drain (this is typically removed to allow the A/C unit to be fitted) so I had 2 fittings made, one that fits under the upper deck and one for the floor of the smugglers box. The flexi pipe was used to join the 2 fittings using a push fit.

This was the thread i posted at the time and you can see photos from other Early 911 members that show the hole that should be there, the original metal piping that should be there and the typical replacement plastic tube.

    Hope that helps

Thanks Ed and Andrew. I think I know how I’m spending my weekend.
