Current Availability of LWB Turn Signal Lenses

As I mentioned in another post I have spent way too much time trying to figure out the current state of availability of LWB turn signal lenses. It's a constantly changing market. Here's what I know at this point, please feel free to correct or add. I'm listing these in what I consider to be order of desirability.

    NOS
Well, how do you beat NOS? Hard to find and expensive when you do find them.

    Lenses with correct BOSCH lettering
My reproduction favorites, but as you probably know, these lenses are no longer being produced. There are still a few here and there but they're very difficult to find. Aase may have a few left.

    Manufactured by URO
My practical reproduction choice right now. These have been recently introduced and are a surprise. URO produces a lot of junk but the lenses surprised me. They do seem to be having some QC problems but when these are good they are excellent. Good color, good moldings, good fit. They're much, much better than I expected especially given their reasonable price. Available from several vendors, I buy mine from Sierra Madre.

    Italian Manufacture
Offered by Mr. Fiat, these have also been recently introduced. Similar to the ones produced by URO, they seem to have some QC problems (I had to return a pair) but when they good they are excellent. Very comparable in quality to the URO's.

    Porsche Classic
I'm not a fan. Very expensive and the quality is not exceptional. Also, it appears that they are ceasing production and not all models are available. Be sure your vendor accommodates returns if you buy some.

    Cheapo reproduction
Well, these are available everywhere and you get what you pay for in this case. Not sure who makes them but who cares.

Am I missing anything? Do I underrate Porsche Classic? The floor is open.

    Cheers,

You seem to have it covered, John. I've seen 2 sets of the URO lenses, one set US (all amber) black trim and one set silver trim Euro (amber/clear). Both sets are better than expected, especially for the price. It may seem odd place to shop for Porsche parts, but you can buy them for $38 each from RockAuto...

Aase has a collection that varies from time to time. NOS and used. I bought NOS rears from them a few years ago and it was not cheap. But they are as correct as you can get. I also bought exceptional used ones for up front from them, also for a pretty penny. As noted, fronts are virtually impossible to find lenses or housing for (used). I think that's what gets bashed most of the time. With a '73 I had to buy black edged lenses, which is an extra dimension of rarity.

I paired all this up with a set of John's headlights. In combination, I'm glad I spent the money. The car looks like the day it left the factory (probably nicer actually).

Oddly enough, the black trimmed turn signal lenses can be had for less than the silver-trimmed lenses even though they're a one-year-only part. Sometimes these prices don't make sense...

Back when I bought my 911, I wanted Euro lenses and my vender said you better order right away because they might not be available much longer. That was 1998 and they were $120 each for NOS made by Bosch. Now I paid $ 160 each for NOS and that was 2012. Got them from Buhain( Road and Race). He happened to find a set on a trip to Europe. Bosch needs to make these again because I think they are considered a wear item like windshields. Chris
