    is the 1972 shift knob any specific?

    i need a shift knob for my 1972 5 speed.

    anything i need to look for?

    Nope. Nothing specific about the '72 knob. Expensive part though, for what it is, and good used ones are hard to come by as they tend to get damaged when being removed.

    I took a look thru my knobs, but I don't have that year.
    I like to collect and make them, I use the wood one in one of my cars.

    Yes, it's the first year of the 915 gearbox so first is where reverse is compared to a 901 gearbox pre 1972. So the shift pattern is different

    Most have cracks to the clear top and some have cracks or chips to the rounded base. Very hard to find a good one and almost impossible to find a perfect one. Later g series had 915 boxes but with a different gear knob.
