    Price inquiry: 73 911E Targa

I purchased this 1973 911E Targa new in Palo Alto in 1973. It was painted firemist cognac (a special order Cadillac color). Only addition I made was installation of racing 110 liter (29.9 gallon) fuel tank (work done by Stoddard). I recently had the engine rebuilt. It now needs a new fuel pump and I am finding it challenging to find capable people to repaint it and recover the seats and targa top. Car is located in New Mexico. I am starting to think about selling it. Would appreciate advice about a reasonable price range to ask. Would also appreciate recommendations for excellent paint/interior shops both here in Albuquerque or in La Jolla.

Tony at www.autobahninteriors.com is very close to la jolla. He is one of the best in the business. For the top, send it off to Dan Pechtel at https://www.carsincnj.com
He did my top several years ago.

I second both recommendations above. Tony did seats and carpet for my '84 Carrera a few years ago, the work was outstanding. Dan did the targa top for a friend's '73, and it is also excellent.

    But...

If you are planning to sell it, I'd probably recommend selling it as is, not painting or refurbishing the interior first. With fresh paint and interior, it might be easier to sell, but I don't know if you could fully recover the cost of good paint and interior work on resell.

I agree. you won't recover the costs, and somebody else can decide what color they want (it doesn't look much like cognac....).

As for current value as it sits, we'll need a lot more pictures and detail on the current condition. Especially any rust...

If the 110 liter gas tank is an original tank , I would take it out and sell it separately and locate an original regular size 1973 tank and install it and sell the car, because an original 110 liter tank has extreme value and you don't get that extra value selling it in the car.

I agree especially since it is not original to the car.

if you are going to sell it best to sell it in its original unmolested condition, do not paint it NOR do the interior and carpets. Any buyer would much more appreciate it in its original state from the original owner I agree if you have the original tank, reinstall it before selling it
