Congrats, it looks great! They are only original "once".

I live in an old (for SoCal, 1920s) beach neighborhood with a very eclectic mix of residents, old, young, some been here for decades. It's compact, small lots, beach bungalows. Alleys behind the houses, with garages in back.

I like to walk down the alleys when going to wherever I had to park my cayenne on the street. On my block alone there are 4 old 911s tucked away. 2 running, 1 in varying states of repair, 1 not.

    They are out there.

Sounds like Santa Monica. They are out there, but this one took some work to find. Worth it!!

Tackling Gas Tank First, and Green to Chrome

So I siphoned out 12 gallons of very old gold gas. Not as shellacky as some old 70s Honda motorcycle tanks I have cleaned to perfection. Some rust debris, but I will spend however long it takes to get it factory new inside. I am a fan of Autosol, green corrosion on the chrome comes off without too much effort. Name: IMG_0373.jpg

Wow. That right there is the reason we drain the fuel after any long term storage. Nice work on the chrome by the way..

The ‘71T we acquired was also a “garage” find and had been sitting for many years. When the gas tank was drained, removed the banjo fitting and the screen from the tank. The following picture shows most of the rust particles that were packed at that fitting. Don’t have a shot of the screen, but it too was equally clogged with what was rust particles. Will be of great interest to learn how you will clean the tank. For me, took the easy way out and replaced the tank with a unit from Porsche.

You have a wonderful car and we wish you many years of enjoyment with it.

Here's what was in my 911T after a prolonged "nap". The in tank filter was completely obliterated with rust flakes and the fuel pump stopped working because of the increased load. I found "EvapoRust" to be useful, but I wish that I had bought a new tank at the time.

One man's junk is another man's treasure. That's awfully nice "junk" and I think a treasure to just about everybody except the PO. Nice going!

    Cheers,

Bill and Pete Sowles father first started selling Porsche cars in the '60's. Bill Sowles is the president of Morong Falmouth Porsche on U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth. They also sell Mazda, Audi and VW. The Forest Ave. address may have been theirs prior to the move to Falmouth? The next time I see Bill I will try and get more information. Bill also has a fine automobile collection of Porsche and VW cars. Oops, I forgot about Presque Isle being a dealer in the '70's. Both Pine State in Bangor and Presque Isle are gone.
