    Elephant Hide Tool Bag

This is a difficult item to price accurately, due to rarity. Apparently, other bags have been offered in the $900-$1,100 range, but that just seems out of line. I understand that elephant hide needs the right buyer.

I am asking $675 plus shipping and fees. The bag cleaned up nicely, as shown in the photos. Stitching is virtually perfect. Clips are very nice for the age. Gray interior has clearly contained tools, but in excellent condition.

Given the rarity, I am open to honest pricing input, including offers.

Just for my own curiosity, how do people know that their '68 car came with an Elephant tool bag?

I was always under the impression that if your car came with an elephant hide interior, it also came with an elephant hide tool bag. Of course, I might only think that because it's logical and we all know that doesn't always work in our Porsche world.

I do know of 2 original elephant hide cars that came with elephant hide bags so it was clearly the case at least some of the time.

my understanding conforms to LiveFromNY. as i understand it, the elephant hide was '68 "L" (and "S" in europe), and the dealerships were more attentive to matching everything for the up-charge. i have also been told that there are additional points in concourse events for matching elephant hide. of course, none of this pertains to my cars, and i don't go to concourse events, so speculative statements are easy to accept under those circumstances.

That makes sense, to match the interior. Any other colors of the elephant tool bag to match different color interiors?

My 68L came with an elephant hide bag. The inside of my bag is a darker tan not the light gray like above.

bag is sold and packed for shipping tomorrow AM. thanks to everyone, and thanks for the supplemental discussion, as well.

as to Mike Fitton's question, i have never seen '68 elephant hide interiors in anything but black, but i defer to the scholars.

No expert but I know that elephant hide interiors came in all four colors, beige, red, brown & black.
